Match reports 2009- 2010: 4th XV
Old Scouts 4th XV: 41      RFA Molesworth Maulers: 19

Old Scouts hosted RAF Molesworth Maulers, a recently formed club playing only their second game of competitive rugby. They are made up of USAF personnel, new to the game of rugby but quickly learning the transition from American Football. The team are very strong, powerful with plenty of direct running but still coming to terms with some of the technicalities at the break down. The match was refereed in a very sympathetic manner and played with great spirit. The only blip was an injury to one of the Maulers that required a precautionary hospital visit.
The Maulers have quickly accustomed themselves to the more traditional parts of the game: i.e. a number of pints of Guiness in the bar afterwards and plans for a return fixture have already been made. The Old Scouts wish this new club every success in the future.

Saturday 31st October 2009: Old Scouts 4th vs Olney 4th

For the first time in a few years, Old Scouts were attempting to put out a 4th team and with sufficient numbers were also able to support Olney, who arrived a few men short. With the agreement of both captains and a very solicitous referee, the teams were mixed to ensure even numbers, with uncontested scrums. Scouts started brightly with a typically tenacious taken try by Phill Coogan and for once Garth Lavery had his kicking boots on to make it 7-0.
Some flowing rugby from Scouts enabled them to stretch further clear with a couple of well taken tries by man-of-the match Fred Braithwaite – one of a number of players making their debuts for Scouts. Olney hit back with a couple of scores of their own before the large crowd were treated to the best worked try of the day – created and finished by vice-chairman Martin Pettit, playing his first game of rugby since turning 50. Further tries by Ian Knox, Baz Ward & Carl Hanley finally put the game out of reach for Olney.
Unfortunately the game was finished early as there was an injury to one of the Olney players – but he was released from hospital after a checkout.
Final Score: Scouts 39 – Olney 12
